For immediate release:
PORTLAND, Oregon (July 10, 2019) -- Outgoing senior Aaron Deloney can officially add one last prep basketball honor to his resume after capturing every major Oregon high school basketball award this year.
From Grant High, Deloney was selected as the Prep Boys Basketball Player of the Year by the Oregon Sports Awards’ voting committee. Deloney was the runner-up for the award in 2018 to Marcus Tsohonis (Jefferson High), who was a finalist this year. Wilsonville High’s Jack Roche finished as a finalist for the 2019 award as well.
Deloney will call in for a live interview and award acceptance on NBC Sports Northwest’s “The Noe Show” with Brian Noe today. The broadcast can also be heard live on KJOR’s Rip City Radio 620.
The Portlander is currently preparing for the start of his college career at The University of Vermont. Deloney was listed as a consensus three-star recruit and the No. 2 overall class of 2019 prospect in Oregon, according to ESPN and 247Sports. He committed to Vermont over offers from Eastern Washington, Portland State and others.
Deloney topped off a 2018 campaign in which he helped the Generals capture a 6A state championship with record offensive numbers. He averaged 27 points, 5.5 assists, 3.2 rebounds and 2 steals per game and now ranks 12th all-time in scoring (1,878 points) in Oregon boys basketball history.
The Generals finished the 2019 season with a 23-7 overall record, 15-1 mark in Portland Interscholastic League (PIL) play and advanced to the quarterfinals of the 6A Boys Basketball State Championship.
Deloney was named the 6A and PIL Player of the Year at the conclusion of the postseason. He also took home Gatorade Oregon Boys Basketball Player of the Year and USA Today All-USA Oregon Player of the Year honors.
The 6-1, 170-pound guard capped his prep career with an appearance in the Northwest Shootout, an annual high school all-star game featuring seniors from Oregon and Washington, in April. Deloney scored 7 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in the contest.
